Search Engine Spam
Definition:
Immoderately manipulating search engine rankings for low-quality web-pages.
Information:
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) often gets confused with search engine spamming. Although overlaps exist between the two, essentially the two are completely different from each other. Spamming often provides irrelevant search results, which leads to an unsatisfied user experience. On the contrary, optimization provides exposure to the website on its most hit keyword and thus leads to a better user experience.
Instances are:
Irrelevancy – Targeting keywords that are irrelevant to the site/page.
Hidden Text – Placing keywords where they are invisible to viewers, employed to maximize keyword count.
Hidden Links – Placing links in a way that people cannot see them, employed to enhance link popularity.
Doorway Clutter – Excessive production of low-standard doorway pages, often generated by machines.
